Today I installed a bunch of my earrings (along with one of my plants & photos) in the front window of in.cube8r in Brisbane: 368 Brunswick Street Fortitude Valley.

THE WEDDING, Kate & Wills 29 April 2011, it was special...

...there was something that was just so lovely about the bride being led down the red carpet by the religious leaders on the hand of her father followed by her sister-bridesmaid, flower girls and page boys. This moment had me leaning forward on my chair and I could feel the softest smile on my face forming followed by the softest feeling in my heart. Just breathtakingly beautiful. So much support before her and behind her.

In the commoner's (yes that word is really outdated, perhaps it would be better to say "everyday person's") world it is more typical to see the order reversed with the flower girls leading the way but I think we should take Kate's lead and order the party this way, don't you?

In all the awe of where she married, there was still this intimacy, this charm of yesteryear. The way she moved down the aisle felt like a 'bride walking through the town to meet her groom' kind of feeling, as was tradition many, many years ago. And of course, it was very much like this as Kate did travel through the town but of course by car most of the way, rather than on foot.

And wasn't her waving just so sweet, delightfully innocent and genuine? With her prince on her mind, she certainly still managed to think of the hordes of people that came out to see her wed, Princess Catherine you seem like such a Jackie Onassis, Grace Kelly to me.

The thought that went into every detail (would we expect any less, probably not) resonated with me...that those trees will be planted after the wedding for example, how special is that? Also how perfectly eco-friendly. Speaking of eco responsibility what about the dash about town the couple made in a converted eco-friendly-fueled Aston Martin, how very cool...Wills drove the convertible with a license plate that read "JU5T WED" with shiny balloons and pretty ribbons attached. Oh so not traditional, again a spirit that the Royal Family hope will re-invent them.

And it is so time for that...we all need a little royal love in our lives and what better way to keep the royals alive than the announcement of

Pippa's dress was so gorgeous, loved, loved, loved it. Those covered buttons, the detailing around the sleeves, the ivory colour...so perfect. Her perfect 'demure-ness' was breathtaking. The warmth between the sisters was lovely...the images of Pippa holding the train, positioning the train just right was orchestrated with such elegance, she was the perfect Bridesmaid, lovely in every way - absolute credit to her...the play between the dress designs of the bride, bridesmaid and flower girls was a visual delight, stellar work Sarah Burton. Couldn't help but feel Pippa & Harry would make for a perfect pairing.

Loving my new birdie cage (pictured above)...we have a house full of pets and have been wanting a bird but we really have our hands full at the moment - this little bird chirps but doesn't need my love and care except a little dusting here and there.

I picked it up from Peter Alexander but it looks like it is only available instore and the pink photo frames from Typo (so in love with their Mother's Day collection).

I made a pair of these earrings for myself too...and I was charmed to hear a few compliments come my way about them...always get a little shy when I hear lovely feedback about my own work...love making jewellery & setting up the photos is almost just as fun...it is a warm and fuzzy feeling when others share the same aesthetic.

This week I came upon OLIVE MANNA, an online emporium of baker's twine, brown paper wrapping, wooden stamps and big old fashioned pegs...my heart was racing with excitement...all the possible uses for all these crafty goodies ran through my mind.

Would love to get my hands of some of the baker's twine (pictured). A sweet floral bouquet simply wrapped in brown paper and finished with a dash of red baker's twine...crisp brown paper and crinkly cotton twine together = love!

The quality of the floral arrangement depends completely on the quality of the flowers used in the arrangement. You can have the most talented Florist but without the most beautiful of blooms to work with, the arrangement will quite frankly, be doomed. You can have an ordinary Florist with access to extraordinary flowers and you will love that bouquet because that is what floristry is about, flowers...beautiful, exquisite flowers. And of course when you have an extraordinary Florist with extraordinary flowers well the result is utterly and I do mean utterly, breathtaking.

A Florist that respects the bloom will see results they thought were not possible...one that doesn't hold the head of a Tulip back with a wire pin nor wrap the stem of a Gerbera with floristry wire so tight it bruises...seeing what can be achieved without too much manipulation...nature needs minimal prodding to look its best.

That is why the arrangements your Mother or Grandmother made using flowers from the garden are probably still some of the most beautiful floral arrangements you have seen. The untrained eye can be a blessing...that organic, made with love, rough around the edges kind of floral arrangement is just so strikingly simple and beautiful sometimes too.

It's all in the flowers and the love that went into it!

Matching Bridesmaids with Brides

In my last post I showed my inspiration/design boards for an upcoming wedding...here are some more inspirations that match the brief the Bride gave me for her bridesmaid flowers.

The Bridesmaids are wearing french navy, 1950's inspired frocks...above I have posted images of two sweet bridesmaid posies that I think the size and design of would be perfect...I will probably end up doing a posy that is a cross between both these designs! I love the flowing blue ribbon in the Martha Stewart floral design and the contrast of the yellow flowers against the navy in the other image is stunning plus I like the foliage in this one!

I plan to tie the look of the Bridesmaid flowers together with the Bride's flowers (and dress) by creating sweet posies using matching roses but using a much smaller collection...I would like to use some pretty ribbon also...perhaps some cream coloured satin falling simply would look perfect against the french navy?

It would be easy to just choose plain cream roses for the posies considering the colour scheme and delicate feel of this wedding but I like the idea of some colour against the navy...those warm, vintage-like colours against navy and the Bride's gorgeous tulle and lace gown should all look very sweet and striking.

I have been busy today co-ordinating flowers for an upcoming wedding at the end of October...the theme is modern vintage, the bride is wearing the most beautiful gown...lace with golden, peachy notes with overlays of crunchy creamy tulle...after some discussions this is what I have put together for the Bride to consider...

Next will be the design boards for the bridesmaids and the buttonnieres.

Sometimes life gets on top of us - demands shake in at every angle and well the fear of disappointment creeps up and chokes the soul too. Tough day today, feel like I'm falling behind and with my dreams not coming true it's time to hide away tonight and gain back some inner strength to keep driving forward...at least it's heading in a direction that's going somewhere, right? Yes...the fight is what it is and it ain't easy.

Quiet, the rooms are so quiet. I am left with just the stirrings of my soul and the yawns and movements of the dogs. I am feeling hopeful and a little tired and dreamy. I am concerned by a few things going on in the background of my life and I sometimes fear these things will start to take on a more prominent role. I am still quite bored and trying really quite hard not to be envious (even if only a little) of others where perhaps the doors have flung open more quickly. And so, I swallow back my pride and keep marching on, praying, hoping, all fingers and toes crossed that what I have gambled along the wobbly track will all come together...that I will indeed be able to sing with the voice I was given, walk the path intended (well at least in part?). Feel like quite the stranger to life sometimes, watching people from afar, feeling disengaged - putting my hand in and out of the waking world back into my cocoon. I think of my friends so often and it saddens me how I was pulled from them but this was my doing. I do miss them. I do miss the connection, I try to tell myself I don't but I do. I am married now and the comfort my husband has brought me is deep and it is still. I miss my flowers but not the lonely shop, perhaps a little...I certainly miss creating beauty, playing with such pretty things that made my soul dream. I will get there and I know I slowly am. The world moves far too slowly for me. I must be patient. Good things come to those that wait, huh? I hope. I hope. I hope. I am alive and wish to live. I have been told I need to live in the real world, that I see life through rose coloured glasses. Certainly reading this back my expectations seem so unreal. I have seen so much ugliness in my life - I think I want to believe for just a moment anyway, that beauty is all that exists or that there is a higher purpose to all the garbage in this world. I want to believe in inner peace, fulfilment, purpose - for without them life just seems so empty. Although love and connections between humankind is enough to convince me that this is simply what living is about too. I rarely find the time to sit around like this and dream, listen. I am usually on a city bound train ready to work my buttocks off. I am asking for a career not a job is all. I am asking to use my mind not just my arms, not just my feet is all.

Do you ever feel like one of a kind?

Just got home from a pre-screening of REMEMBER ME at the Regent in Brisbane...beautiful movie, so incredibly stirring and terribly sad. I was left paralysed with emotion at the end, tears streaming down my face. I was hoping the lights wouldn't go on so quickly...that I would be given a little more time to collect myself but alas on they flicked! As all the chatty people streamed past me heading for the exit, I looked away hoping noone would notice me crying in the soft lighting. I thought, 'what is wrong with these people - why can they just jump up so quickly and be so verbal??'. I guess I identified strongly with this one and perhaps all the chatter was a good sign...that it got people thinking??

I adored Robert Pattinson's otherworldly presence, his sensitivity and 'James Dean-ness' - there is this scene where he's in the bathtub with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth - strongly reminiscent of the late actor.

Loved the honesty in this film - it probably won't make it into my favourite top ten movies ever but I will remember, Remember Me.

No Strings Attached

painted cork (which Perrotts Florist kindly supplied),
a gorgeous striped pot (I had tucked away from Ikea),
some shredded recycled paper,

Using a photograph of one of my wedding bouquets,
I made this gift tag.

...I put in place a pretty pink and white rose patterned cardboard on the back (to tie in with the colours of the rose bouquet). In the corner, I fastened a pink and white polka dot ribbon through a hole punch.

All that it needs now is a handwritten message and a recipient!

Every day you get another chance to write your story.
You get to add the characters, you get to decide the plot.
Who will you write in? Who will you write out?

Yes it’s important to have a good cast of characters &
of course you’ll want your foils but try not to create any villains.
Try to write out anyone who will cause you to spend
late nights up in bed alone & wiping the salt off your face.

Try to write out anyone who makes you feel anything less than
incredible. If you happen to write in a character like that,
make sure they only serve to make your character strong.
Make sure they only serve to show how beautiful your character is.

Now the plot is the tricky part because of course a story needs a rise,
climax, fall, resolution. It’s very easy to have the conflict
be a negative one. It’s a lot tougher to write a beautiful story
without a conflict but it can be done if you’re willing to pull those
late nights & wake up before the sun. are you willing to?

Everyday you get another chance to write your story.
Write a new story everyday or work on an epic tale
tying together every day for thousands of days.
Write it beautiful.

The past fews weeks I have been writing a post titled, "Beautiful Sunday' inspired by stationery I owned as a little girl, which had those two lovely words written upon it. Sunday, ahh a day to take a stroll along the beach in the late afternoon sun - a day to catch up with your soul.

I still own my stationery collection from my childhood and have since collected many more beautiful bits of paper. Isn't stationery one of life's most beautiful things?!
